October 26, 2021 One Community, One Book Webinar

On Tuesday, October 26th, Inside Out hosted an event with the University of Iowa Center for Human Rights reflecting on Dr. Reuben Jonathan Miller’s book “Halfway Home.” His book points out that mass incarceration is designed to follow people home — from the effects of having lived in a dehumanizing environment to the continuing confines of life on parole; from legal discrimination in housing and job markets to widespread social stigma. People returning to Johnson County, IA, after incarceration discussed some of the many challenges they face and what has helped them succeed.
