Inside Out Reentry Community Newsletter June/July 2024

June/July Highlights

Hiking at Hickory Hill Park: Reentry is more than just jobs or housing – it’s also connecting with our community. We recently had a great time hiking at Hickory Hill Park,  exploring new places full of wildlife and exciting views. Staff member Neil was able to help us identify poison ivy, birds, and tree species. Thanks to everyone who came out and those who helped!
Game Night! Who doesn’t like a good game night? Cheers to our bags tournament winners Chad and Reggie and to all who played – it was competitive! We shared good food, camaraderie, and celebrated a lot of recent successes. What a great night!

Would you or your community group want to join us and serve a meal at an upcoming quarterly game night (September, December or March)? Email [email protected].

Creative Collective Art Workshop! Check out the incredible artwork from our latest art workshop. Incarcerated artists are highly creative and resourceful. A huge shoutout goes to artist Chris Martin for leading this workshop. He shared some of his incredible artwork made using popsicle sticks, and showed us how to create our own art with limited resources.
Yoga of Recovery: This new class focuses on felt sense and lived experience, an invitation into the body, exploring daily supportive behaviors, an investigation into unique solutions for unique individuals, and how recovery can be a process of creative self-inquiry. We offer participants new perspectives and ways to understand the addictive process, integrating wisdom and practices from yoga & Ayurveda with modern recovery principles and 12-step approaches. If you know someone who is justice system impacted who may be interested, we would love to meet them!
Father’s Day Inreach: To all the fathers out there, we hope everyone had a very good Father’s Day! To make sure those who are incarcerated are not forgotten, we had a Father’s Day card mailing. We know how challenging it is to be separated on this day, so we mail signed cards with resources to incarcerated Dads.

In 2016, 47% of people in state prisons and 57% in federal prisons were parents of minor children. -The Sentencing Project
